SouthFair was formed in 1991 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1993. The mission of SouthFair is to improve the quality of life for the residents of South Dallas through the promotion of neighborhood revitalization, primarily through the development of affordable housing, economic activity and the provision of needed support services.
South Fair's primary target area in South Dallas is the Jeffries-Meyers neighborhood, census tracts 29.00 and 35.00. The 1990 census reported a total of 2,934 residents. The median income was $9,266 for census tract 29.00 and $13,880 for census tract 35.00.
The Board of Directors is comprised of 9 members of which six reside in the neighborhood. Among the Board members can be found a vast array of housing and economic development experience, key links to public and private resources, and individuals with strong commitments to and records of achievement within South Dallas.
