What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-on-one caring supportive relationship or partnership between a mentor and a mentee that is based on trust. This relationship focuses on the needs of the mentored individuals and encourages them to develop to their fullest potential based on their own vision of the future."
Our Mission To empower the children of prisoners to maximize their potential by providing academic, social & moral enrichment through supportive adult to child relationships that emphasize well being and advancement.
Our Program: 1) Encouraging the child (ages 4-15 with at least one parent incarcerated in a state or county facility) 2) Strengthening the family (caregivers and incarcerated parents) 3) Enhancing the community (zip codes 75210, 75215, 75217, 75223, 75227 and others)
Youth referred from other zip code areas will be assessed on an individual basis and may be referred to other programs as needed,
Mentors receive monthly trainings and commit to the mentoring relationship for a minimum of 1 year. Mentors and mentees meet at least once per week for no less than one hour of face-to-face contact. Mentors, mentees and families participate in quarterly events that develop social skills, encourage character development and support the institution of family rituals.

- DEFY
What is DEFY?
The Drug Education for Youth (DEFY) Program is a multi phased drug and violence prevention program that targets youth between the ages of nine and twelve years of age to deter them from negative behavior and activities at their most influential stage of life. The program instructs youth on several topics such as drug resistance, self-esteem, gang awareness, conflict resolution, and physical fitness DEFY consists of four integrated components which together provide a year-long experience for the youth: Leadership Camp- Phase I: This phase of the program consists of a residential (nine day Camp) that is structured to provide a focused classroom learning environment on various topics.
Mentoring: In order to reinforce the skills learned in Phase I, a 10-month mentoring program during the school year takes place. Adult volunteers and youth from Phase I are placed into mentor cluster groups where they participate in workshops, field trips and tutoring. activities for the 10-month period.
Parent Engagement: Throughout the DEFY Program , DEFY Program Coordinators and staff actively encourage parents / guardians to become engaged in supporting their childrens commitment to a positive , drug free life style.
Outplacement: Upon the conclusion of the DEFY Program year, all youth are placed in various follow-up programs to ensure that the youth are continually engage in drug violence prevention activities.
DEFY provides a safe, productive and fun week in the summer and ten months during the school year. DEFY ensures a safe learning environment for its youth. DEFY staff are trained, caring professionals who take child safety and enrichment to heart.
Defy youth become confident citizens that learn hoe to effectively stay away from drugs and other negative behavior.
But most of all , DEFY is fun!

- WEED AND SEED
Funded by the U. S. Department of justice , Operation Weed and Seed is an innovative strategy designed to prevent , control and reduce violent crime , drug abuse and gang activity in targeted high- crime neighborhoods. It involves a dual approach of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors cooperating to weed out criminals who participate in violent crime and drug abuse while seeding in human services in the area to address prevention ,treatment and neighborhood revitalization. Community Policing serves as the bridge between law enforcement and neighborhood restoration.
Our Mission is to reduce drugs, violence, and related and related crimes to improve the quality of life for residents ,through multi agency collaborations leading to Neighborhood R Revitalization, combining the Resources of:
Community Policing Prevention, Intervention & Treatment Law Enforcement Mini grants invested in community and faith-based organizations plus partnerships with residents, businesses and other community stakeholders produce solution-based initiatives. Weed and Seed brings together all key partners in the Steering Committee leadership to develop a long term plan for the neighborhood . On the enforcement side targeted arrests and prosecutions are the primary thrust. On the community development end the focus is on providing social service, educational support, truancy prevention, employment training and economic development opportunities.
